LIKE A RAY OF LIGHT

I ONCE sat by the ocean very early in the morning and experienced the deep silence in which the light of the sun was almost imperceptibly, moment by moment, degree by degree, getting brighter and stronger. I couldn't distinguish any individual stages of progression in the light; instead, it was as if the light, as it spread, had always been there. I sat and watched with inner calm, and was full of trust. All worries fell away in the face of such beauty.

The action of light reflects the effortlessness and strength that are characteristic of Spirit and all things spiritual. According to the teachings of Christian Science, Spirit is God, is always in action, in continuous movement. There is no stoppage of His harmonious activity, no delay. This thought is expressed in Science and Health this way: "In Science, all being is eternal, spiritual, perfect, harmonious in every action" (p. 407).

Who could prevent the sun from rising in the morning? Or who would fear that daylight wouldn't come? Nobody would doubt this, because experience makes us so sure of this fact, and no human willpower or fear could ever influence it.
