THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

As a child, I loved the curved mirrors that could be found at amusement fairs. When I stood in front of them, they distorted my body and made me look thin, tall, fat, short, whatever; and I used to laugh at how weird I looked.

I was reminded of those times one sparkling, sunny day recently when a friend and I took an architectural tour of The Hague, in Holland. Opposite the beautiful new white town hall was a very dated, brown 1960s building with reflecting curved windows. We both remarked how ugly it was.

As we walked on, I noticed a wonderful pattern emerge in a small part of those windows, and out came my camera. My friend thought I was nuts photographing the ugly building, but once I showed him the digital image he was amazed.

Later, I thought about how God's beauty is around every corner, in all shapes and sizes. We just have to keep our eyes open. Also, just because something appears ugly, this doesn't mean it cannot reflect beauty. What a lesson I learned that day! CSS
