GRATITUDE FOR MANY HEALINGS
I came into Christian Science in 1977, through a healing of medically diagnosed multiple sclerosis (this healing was published in the March 7, 1983, Sentinel). Shortly before that time, I knew little of Christian Science, and frankly, was not very interested. However, through a wonderful set of circumstances, my view was transformed in a day. I was completely healed in about eight months. I knew this was the path I had to get on and stay on.
Recently I came across a statement by a teacher of Christian Science who said he kept his thought focused on the spiritual fact that there is no life in any false belief, regardless of what form it takes. The first part of that remark really caught my attention, and brought into clear focus an idea contained in "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health—"There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter" (p. 468). I feel that every healing I've had has occurred, in large part, from refusing to believe in the validity, or life, of whatever discord appeared to be plaguing me. Christian Science has taught me how to do this—how to discern spiritual reality, which alone is true and includes no inharmony.
On one occasion, I was working in the stock room at a company of which I was part owner, when I suddenly felt overcome with weakness, and found my right arm and hand had become paralyzed. I paused for a few moments to reflect on who I was as God's spiritual idea, and then went back to work using only my left arm. No one joined me in this task, and I was able to finish the job without any comment on this unusual manner of working.
