ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER

THE PRACTICE IS MY INEFFABLE JOY

WHAT A SURPRISE , when at the end of Christian Science Primary class instruction, our teacher said, "Go prepare your hearts and homes for the healing practice." Wow! he expected that the entire class would become active healers. I hadn't expected this. Who was I to be a healer?

Now it's difficult for me to believe that I've been advertising in The Christian Science Journal as a practitioner for over 25 years. And I've loved learning that practitioners are down-to-earth regular folk. They go to parties and have parties. They swim, shop, garden, mow the lawn, rake leaves, go to movies, dance, wash dishes and floors. Many practitioners have children and raise them; are grandparents and great-grandparents; they babysit their grandchildren—all while being available to pray for others.

After class instruction, it took me ten years to feel I was ready to advertise in the Journal as a healer. I guess I was somewhat like Saul "kicking against the pricks" — but when that light shined, I could not help but walk in it (see Acts 3).
