FREEDOM FROM PAIN AND IMMOBILITY

For some time I struggled with stiff, achy joints and muscles, and weak legs. Prayer—filling my thought with the divine facts about a situation—has always been my first and only method to find healing, and I've experienced it many times. So I turned to the power of Spirit, of God.

Going up stairs was very difficult, as was using the brake while driving a car. And because I love tennis, the condition took a lot of the fun out of playing. I knew these difficulties involved common beliefs about growing old, and might be considered normal to expect from a material standpoint. The world is constantly telling us that we live in matter and that our bodies will wear out with time. However, from a spiritual perspective I understood this to be nothing but a lie. As I'd learned it from the Bible and from Christian Science, the fact remained that I was God's image and likeness. And it was not part of God's plan for me, or for any of His ideas, to deteriorate in any way. God sees us only as His spiritual reflection, full of life and strength.

For a while I managed with my own prayers. They brought temporary relief, but then the pain would come back even worse than before. One day I became so uncomfortable that I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner to help me pray. Up to that point I'd been reluctant to do this, feeling I should be able to find healing by myself.
