Expect good

Delightfully, Christian Science is teaching me to expect health and increased happiness, rather than a decrease in vitality and enthusiasm.

The idea of being caught in the irreversible momentum of something that's bad and getting worse—"the snowball effect"—is often the expected norm. Unfortunately, disease and aging carry a connotation of such inevitability, often painting the picture of a no-win situation. Even new jobs and relationship seem clouded today by "let's wait and see," rather than an expectation of good to come.

Yet because of what I'm learning in Christian Science about my inherent spirituality, this idea of snowballing transports me instead back to childhood. I actually imagine the irresistible joy of racing downhill after a large ball of snow that's increasing in size and speed—a snowman in the making. To me this points to a childlike awe we can have today of God's goodness coming in unexpected ways, even when it may feel we're rocketing through tough times.
