THE ABUNDANCE THAT COMES FROM GIVING

TURMOIL in the financial markets has literally hit home—from the US to the UK and beyond. The "squeeze on family budgets and savings is 'the worst since 1958'" according to a UK news source. A recent survey reported, as well, that "people with middle-class incomes are finding it more and more difficult to meet their financial obligations."

A direct result of the squeeze are scenes such as this in England: 3,000 bargain hunters were waiting October 16 when a megastore, advertising half-price cuts, opened at 6:30 a.m.; highways jammed, parking lots overflowed, and police quelled disorder as the nighttime queue grew.

Yet, what a prime opportunity to rest hope on God's infinite resources—available to everyone—rather than on market predictions and happenstance markdowns; and at the same time to dismiss the claim that good is in short supply, limited to a particular place, and out of the individual's control.
