ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE NURSING—A FIRST-RATE OPTION

November 2008 marks the centennial of the By-Law in the Manual of The Mother Church which officially established Christian Science nursing as part of the Church's healing activities.

WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I became a regular reader of The Christian Science Monitor. As I contemplated possible career paths, I'd periodically look at the classified ads. I noticed that there were always ads for Christian Science nurses. I knew nothing about Christian Science nursing—and wondered then why nurses would be needed since Christian Science healthcare is based on prayer and spiritual demonstration.

I prayed about which career to choose throughout high school. My desire was to be where I could help the most people and where my talents would be used to the full. "Not my will, but thine, be done" was a helpful Bible quote that I contemplated (Luke 22:42).
