How I Pray for the world

I've always been eager for peace in the world—and eager for inspiration in how to pray.

One Sunday in Sunday School, inspiration came to me. We were reading Bible verse that stood out. To me it was a promise from God. It said, "He maketh peace in thy borders" (Ps.147:14). Wow! As I thought about it, this promise could apply to wars and to any borders: in homes, between nations, and between people.

I pray with this verse from the Bible for Darfur, Iraq, and other nations that struggle with conflict.

Peace in the world does not start with nations but with oneself. If you're kind to people and resist the urge to argue, you can be part of the peace process. I like how Mary Baker Eddy said, "To love, and to be loved, one must do good to others" (Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896,p.127).

One time I felt like a girl at my day camp and I were at war with each other. We had said some mean things to each other and kind of became enemies because of that. At the end of camp, I went home and forgot about it. Then I saw this girl again at a Christian concert, and realized I still harbored angry thoughts about her. At the concert, there was an opportunity for people to ask God for healing, and so I took that time to forgive her. I didn't get a chance to speak to her afterward, but I'm glad I forgave. And if I see her again, I will tell her.
