Part of a really big idea

What had it meant to me to become a member of The Mother Church in Boston at age 13? If anyone had asked, I'm not sure I could have answered. Except perhaps to exude the joy and pride I felt, for I loved God and the peace Christian Science had brought to my family.

Yet somehow I did know that my membership had nothing to do with a church building. If I'd been pressed to think it through (which might have been a good thing), I bet I'd have said that Mother Church membership felt like being part of a really big idea.

Integral to my feelings about The Mother Church has always been a conviction that God's love is present for everyone, including me. And as years passed, the Church Manual, written by Mary Baker Eddy, was guide and protector inspiring me with wise counsel for my relationship with God, its author, others, and myself. Still, at times, I'd ask myself, "What does this membership mean?"
