PRAYING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

RENEWABLE ENERGY AND THE DIVINE SOURCE

In a world facing uncertain resources, many countries, organizations, and individuals are becoming more concerned with energy supplies and security. Petroleum-based fuel reserves are declining while demand is ever increasing.

Over the past two winters, European newspapers have reported on disputes between utility companies and their customers over energy-use restrictions, involving angry public responses to these requirements. Political chasms are opening up between those companies with reserves—those who control supply logistics—and the customers who purchase energy to heat their homes and operate businesses. Very concerned about this trend, some people are taking steps to become more energy independent and to rely more on renewable resources.

Not surprisingly, the issue of energy supply is now high on the international political agenda. I've been asking myself, however, if the solution doesn't lie in the individual demonstration of more God-given intelligence. Christian Science takes the concept of supply much deeper, to its spiritual dimension as God's communication of ideas, thoughts, insights, and inspirations. One thing I know for certain is that provision is sure only when we see God as its source.
