PARTING . . . WITHOUT THE SORROW
ALTHOUGH SHAKESPEARE'S JULIET suggested that "parting is such sweet sorrow," I have found, as a parent and grandparent, that partings can be truly sweet and free of sorrow.
Over the years, I've been involved in many partings, and through them all, I've discovered that saying goodbye doesn't have to be sad. Our family has learned to hold hands across the miles, agreeing that there is no better hand for each one of us to hold than God's.
When our youngest set off for a camp far across the ocean, I knew we wouldn't have easy phone and mail connections. But we were both one with our tender, caring Father-Mother God, who would never leave us. And therefore we were one with each other in God.
