'RISE IN THE STRENGTH OF SPIRIT'

I have been a Christian Scientist all of my life, and have had many healings through prayer, which prove to me Christian Science brings to us an understanding that God is, indeed, "a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1).

In October 1986 it became necessary to bring my mother to our home to care for her. On the day she came, I was hurrying home from work and got into an accident—in the attempt to avoid hitting another car, I drove into a tree at 30 mph. Even though I was wearing a seat belt, I was stunned and felt I couldn't move because of the pain in my rib cage.

As soon as I could think, I began to affirm that God was with me and I had never been out of His care. Even though the physical evidence was that I had hit a tree and was the victim of an accident, I knew instinctively that spiritual evidence was actually the fact, no matter what seemed to be going on. And the spiritual fact was that I had never been, could never be, separated from God, because He holds us firmly in His grasp.
