For brighter tomorrows

The other day a friend of mine was telling me about the hopeful news for a new job that her husband had received. It came on a Friday afternoon. She said it changed the family's outlook on the weekend that was about to begin. All at once, activities they'd planned for Saturday that had been looking stressful and disrupted started to appear enjoyable and worthwhile. That prospect of upcoming employment had immediately brightened up the atmosphere in their home.

Yes, we all want to know that good things are in store for the future, whether it involves the next week or the next generation. But so often, for countless reasons, the outlook isn't so bright as it suddenly was for my friends. When things appear doubtful, or if something downright unpleasant looms on the horizon, the anticipation of tomorrow's trouble can put a damper on today's peace and happiness. What then?

We planned this issue of the Sentinel to explore how praying to understand more about God's law of good brings the prospect of consistently brighter tomorrows — whether the horizon looks happy or bleak at the moment. As the upcoming articles discuss, Christian Science always gives each one of us the power to think effectively, constructively, prayerfully, about issues that range from achieving a secure financial future to confronting the growing threats and fears of global warming.
