Next in our biweekly series on how people have nurtured their public practice of Christian Science.

GOD POINTED THE WAY

THE HEALING PRACTICE is a holy mission for me. Ever since I had Christian Science class instruction years ago, I felt I wanted to devote my life to helping others through prayer. One of the early Christian Science workers in Italy was a great inspiration to me because of her understanding that divine Love is ever present. So was my Christian Science teacher. And I felt a strong desire to follow in their footsteps.

First, however, I had a lot of spiritual growing to do. As a single mother with four children, I used my secretarial skills to support myself and the family for several years. But I never felt at home in those jobs. I often prayed to God to show me what I was meant to do to serve Him better and to move closer to the practice of Christian Science.

As a result of those prayers, the opportunity arose to teach language skills. And how I enjoyed this! For a while, I really thought I had found my niche. Here I had to work with people who were at important stages of their lives, who were going to move to a new country and needed to learn a new language. Often my first task was to help remove their limiting fears that they were too old to learn another language and to embark on a new lifestyle.
