'THE PHYSICIAN INFORMED ME THAT I WAS DIABETIC'

In February 2006, as part of the immigration procedure for migrating to Canada, I was required to undergo a medical test.

At the time, I was living and working in Bahrain, and went to the medical facility authorized by the Canadian High Commission. The physician informed me that my blood sugar level was twice the normal level, and that I was diabetic. He recommended that I begin taking medication in order not to fail the test. I politely declined, reassuring him that I would begin treatment of the condition at once, but without the use of medicine.

I then called a Christian Science practitioner and asked him to pray with me. For some time I'd been experiencing abnormal physical symptoms, but had just put up with them. I had, however, quietly pursued a more earnest study of Science and Health. Because my mother had also been diagnosed with diabetes, and had passed on a year earlier, I now realized that ultimately I needed to overcome the fear of this disease that had taken hold in my thoughts.
