Next in our biweekly series on how people have nurtured their public practice of Christian Science.
A GOOD TIME TO CALL
WHEN I WAS A COLLEGE STUDENT searching for purpose in life, it never crossed my mind to enter the full-time public practice of Christian Science healing. But during my senior year at college, I felt God guiding me into a career as a Christian Science nurse. Along the way, I prayed through many challenges with my growing understanding of Christian Science. This resulted in some pretty cool healings. Some I saw others have, and some I experienced firsthand.
When my husband passed on suddenly, leaving me with two small children and no financial safety net, I was devastated. But, as I faced this obstacle through prayer, my understanding of God grew by leaps and bounds, and my children and I came to know God even more as a father and husband.
About two years later, happy with my career in Christian Science nursing, I woke up one morning to the message, "I want you to think about taking calls to help people through prayer." From the time I was a young girl, I'd learned to recognize these angel messages as God speaking to me in ways that I would respond to best. So I knew I could trust this divine guidance. Immediately, I began to consider how this new step would be possible while I was working ten hours a day, five days a week, with two young children. Creative solutions soon came to thought. I decided to talk to the kids about helping me make things run smoothly around the house. And it seemed feasible to take calls from 9 p.m. until 10 p.m., and then take time after that to support the callers through prayer.
