REFUSAL TO INDULGE IN ANGER BRINGS SWIFT HEALING

This summer, I was reading while enjoying a pedicure at a nail salon, when I suddenly felt a sharp pain in one of my big toes. I looked down to see the horrified face of the attendant, and realized that my toe was bleeding profusely. Apparently, an instrument he was using had been disassembled; as a result, there were a few cuts on my toe, and a large area of skin had been torn off. As my attendant frantically began to clean and bandage the affected area, I remained calm and assured him that all was well.

My reaction was based on what I had learned through my study of Christian Science. And my immediate prayers at that time were supported by a statement in Science and Health: "Accidents are unknown to God... "(p. 424). To me, this was as simple as seeing that the only thing God could give to His creation was good—health and complete protection from harm, including injury.

Within a short time, the wounds on my toe had been covered and cleaned, and the pain diminished. The attendant profusely apologized and was surprised when I requested that he complete the pedicure. He soon asked, "Why aren't you angry?"
