INTUITIVE STEPS
IT CAN BE ALL too easy to hold back on a new idea until we know that the perfect logistical and financial preparation rests behind it. But I've found through my study of Christian Science, that when an idea is impelled by divine Love, however risky or illogical it may seem at first, it's worth exploring.
Looking back on the steps that led me to graduate school, I think about the spiritual confidence I gained. I learned that this confidence is more than just being fearless about trying new things; it's doing as the Bible directs, taking "no thought for your life" concerning what to eat or wear, or even for matters such as paying for graduate school (Matt 6:25). When we base our reliance on God, first steps sometimes need to be taken before the supply for the journey at hand has even appeared.
A few years ago, I was sitting in the lobby of a movie theater waiting for my husband and some friends, when I felt suddenly—and divinely—impelled to register for graduate school in the fall. The timing of this idea took me by surprise. Although there had been many times before when I'd considered this step, there had always been obstacles to confront and questions about whether or not studying at a graduate level was right for me. Now, surrounded by the energetic movements of moviegoers, I could think of nothing else!
