YOURS IS A LIFE WORTH LIVING

In a live Internet chat on suicide last month, titled "Yours is a life worth living," spirituality.com featured HARRIET SCHUPP. Harriet is a Christian Science practitioner from New Orleans, Louisiana. Before Harriet went into the full-time healing work, she owned a real estate business and with her husband ran a small cattle farm in Mississippi. She also raised two sons. A Christian Science lecturer, she has also written articles for the Christian Science magazines and spirituality.com. These are excerpts from the chat, which can be heard or read in its entirety at www.spirituality.com/chats/living.

What if one feels that suicide is what God wants us to do?

My understanding of God is that God is Life. And Life and death are in no way connected. God is not connected to death. The Bible tells us that the last enemy that shall be overcome is death, but it is overcome. And Jesus overcome death—with Lazarus, with a woman whose son had died. So everything that Jesus is teaching us and that we read in the Bible is on the side of life.
