ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER
AN UNAVOIDABLE PRACTICE
MY GRANDFATHER, eyes closed, was sitting in his chair in a small, too warm, turn-of-the-century apartment in Ohio. He held a piece of paper in one hand. As any preschooler might, I wanted to know what he was doing, since he was being so quiet. He said he was praying for the people on the list—people who had asked him for help with scientific healing prayer. His thumb stopped at each name as he prayed in silent earnest.
This was my first impression of healing through prayer in the public practice of Christian Science.
About 45 years later, our family moved to that same city. At the local branch church, I met a man, who, when a child, had received healing help from my grandfather. He didn't describe the illness of which he had been healed but expressed his gratitude and exhibited health, wisdom, and agelessness. This encounter spoke to me of the eternal effect of spiritual healing and the importance of Christian Science practice in the lives of others.
