... so God said, 'Do a new thing'

...AND, ONCE MY WIFE AND I realized that we could not do otherwise, we did a new and quite different thing. We simply had to follow the clear messages we had heard and felt through several years of praying about our work, home, and purpose.

Ten years ago we moved to a small Vermont town (population 200). Our new thing resulted in wholesale changes. We went from demanding work-lives to variable employment, from steady to uncertain income (true zero-based budgeting), from urban to rural living, and from a moderate climate to a more rugged environment. Our once busy, calendar-filled days became a string of blank canvases.

But the "why" of our changes developed long before the new "what" took shape. And the substance behind that "why" continues to sustain us.
