IMMOBILITY QUICKLY REVERSED THROUGH PRAYER

Earlier this year, I was feeling burdened by a heavier-than-usual load of responsibilities, including some demanding church and personal obligations. One morning I found that I couldn't move my left leg without a lot of effort and pain. Soon my entire side felt stiff, and finally, I wasn't able to walk at all.

In two days, I was supposed to go on a trip with my brother and sister. However, when there was no change in my condition, and other symptoms began to appear, I canceled out of the trip and called a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer.

Things looked dark and I was afraid, wondering if I'd ever walk again. After I described the situation to her, the practitioner's first words were, "Drop the shackles!" She then quoted this passage: "What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death? Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government. Truth makes man free" (Science and Health, p. 225). I was startled at how appropriate this message was for me. I had been immobilized and in bed for two days. "Drop the shackles" was a stirring wake-up call that had an immediate and transforming effect on my thinking. The burdened feeling I'd been carrying around for weeks lifted. Activities I felt responsible for, I quickly surrendered to God. I stopped worrying about my health and family challenges. I even smiled with delight at those three words.
