PERSISTENT PRAYER BRINGS RESULTS

Nearly three years ago, during the last several days of an extended cruise, I began to feel weak and found that eating was no longer appealing. I continued with normal activities, but I did not feel well. This was unusual, as I am normally fit and hardy.

Immediately I went to God and began to pray by acknowledging spiritual truths that I'd learned from studying Christian Science—and that I'd successfully relied on many times for healing—including this statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "Divine Love [God] always has met and always will meet every human need" (p. 494). I trusted that God would meet my need. I denied the suggestion that I could be weak, and affirmed that He was the source of my strength. The symptoms of weakness became less severe, and I pressed on. I was certain that God was taking care of me, since I am His child, made in His image (see Gen. 1:27).

I had arranged to spend three days at our final destination. But after the first day there, my condition became worse and I felt that I would be grateful just to get back home. I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me, and to help me understand that my health and identity are spiritual, not determined by a physical body or material health laws.
