ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER
A DREAM COME TRUE
WHEN I WAS in my 20s, I was elected Second Reader in a small Christian Science Society in British Columbia. A friend, who was also in her 20s, was elected First Reader. We thoroughly enjoyed our study of the Weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson during our three years of conducting the Sunday services, and we talked all the time about becoming Christian Science practitioners at some point in our lives.
Daily Bible study was crucial in my growth in Christian Science. It was built into my life as a wife and a mother of three. I also loved the articles and healings published in the Christian Science magazines. They were so helpful and made a profound impression on me from my teen years onward.
In one of my favorite Bible passages, two of Jesus' disciples describe the impact of his teaching: "Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?" (Luke 24:32). I realized this was how I felt about my study of Christian Science! My heart burned to share this wonderful way of life that had been my Comforter through life's many trials, and the healings that had resulted. Those trials always took me a step higher in spiritual understanding. With each step of progress, I wanted to reach out to all those who were suffering and in need, to help and heal them as I had been healed so many times.
