A CHOICE FOR PRAYER AND HEALING
Some years ago, when my daughter, Erinn, was little, I received a call from her preschool, informing me that one of the children had been diagnosed with scarlet fever. Erinn was apparently also showing the symptoms, and they asked me to come and pick her up.
Fear suddenly engulfed me, and I caught myself in a sob of desperation. I remember, as I put down the phone, turning to God for a "hug," a spiritual connection to Him who I knew could calm my fears. I sat in my chair, and did not move until I was convinced of God's allness and felt the absolute reassurance that we were not alone, and never would be. God's love for me and my daughter was as strong then as it had always been.
Then I contacted a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to pray for my daughter. Hearing her loving, calm voice on the phone quieted my alarm. She told me that Erinn was "covered in loveliness" that was from God. I remember thinking, "That is pretty simple; I can accept that." I would pray with those words, and each time the thought came that my daughter had a disease, I rejected the notion that she could be anything less than lovely and perfect, the way God had made her. Covered with His loveliness, she was safe. Under God's blanket of protection, she could not be harmed in any way. It was my task as her parent to keep focused on the fact that divine Love was in charge of my daughter, the preschool, and all the other children.
