THE SOUL OF CHRISTIANITY

FROM TIME TO TIME, I encounter a book in which one section is so spiritually challenging, so enriching, that I feel that if I'd read nothing else but those pages, they would have been worth the price of the book.

That happened for me when I first read the 91-page middle section, titled "The Christian Story," in Huston Smith's 14th and latest book, The Soul of Christianity.

This experience was similar to my first encounter many years ago with the opening chapter, titled "Prayer," in Science and Health. I was so grabbed by the blessings and promises set out in Mary Baker Eddy's book that I knew that even if I didn't read beyond those 17 pages, I'd have gotten more than my money's worth. Needless to say, my reading of Science and Health didn't stop there. The rest of the book engaged me so completely—and in such practical ways—that I couldn't put it down.
