"CHRISTINE SENINI, A NEW NAVY CHAPLAIN, will be praying for many sailors in the years to come, not least the two budding women pilots who have just completed their naval officer training with her. The trainee pilots will be joining an elite group in the Royal Australian Navy,which was previously an all-male preserve.

"Chaplain Senini will herself be breaking new ground, being the first full-time woman chaplain in the navy. [On December 9] she spoke of her excitement and pride as she joined 53 other new officers graduating at HMAS Creswell, Jervis Bay. ...

"Formerly a policewoman with more than 12 years' service, she was ordained in the Uniting Church in 2003. She was serving as minister at Galston parish, northwest of Sydney, but could not get the idea of naval service out of her mind. 'I was inspired by the people I met in the navy,' she said. 'They are practical, want to get on with the job, and are willing to help others.'
