A new life, a new way to help others
Once bound by fears, a mother in Kenya is freed by Love to give love.
MY FAMILY LIVES in Suna–Migori, a town in the southwestern part of Kenya near the border with Uganda and Tanzania. We grow corn, beans, and other vegetables for the family, and I used to sell some at the market. At times I supported my neighbors who were in need with what we grew, because they were not able to grow enough. Our land is close to the river, so it was easier for me to water my vegetables than it was for those who lived beyond the river.
I also worked at a family planning clinic in Migori. I was trained to counsel people in the community, to tell them about methods of family planning and how they could have smaller families, and be able to care for them so long as they had enough food. That was my work before I knew about Christian Science.
There was a lady who used to bring her child to the hospital near our clinic, and at the same time she came to get family planning services. She had a child who suffered from seizures, and I used to see them in the line of patients every time they came.
