HEALING OF FLU SYMPTOMS

Returning home from teaching one evening, I suddenly felt unwell. I immediately thought about Jesus' statement that the kingdom of heaven is within us, and I prayed to feel that healing inner peace of God's presence. I also prayed to understand that God, who is Love, does not cause illness, and therefore in His kingdom there can only be health.

In the morning, I was grateful that the chills from the previous day were gone, but I had been up many times in the night unable to retain food. I continued to pray, and about mid-morning I had a sparkling conviction that I had been healed and that all was well. I ate a small lunch and again ate at dinnertime. But once again I had a difficult night.

I decided to phone a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me as we had forty people coming for a wedding shower for our niece. Also, I was to perform in a concert the next day. The practitioner mentioned that Christian Science is the Comforter promised by Jesus. Since I had been through so much discomfort, this was a most comforting idea. A hymn had been going through my thought for the past day, and what especially touched me were the final words: "Spirit of unfailing strength" (Paul Gerhardt, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 119). I realized that my strength didn't come from food but from God, and this concept was a great support to me during the day.
