THE STORY BEHIND 'THE SPIRITUAL GENERATION' GENSPIRITUAL—UP CLOSE AND PARENTAL
The college drop-off wasn't going according to script. My script, anyway. The perfect final family lunch scene, complete with meaningful conversation and quality closure, was rewritten in a flash. "Gotta go," our son, John, announced. "I'm meeting friends."
Catching my look of indignation, our daughter, Abby, stepped wisely, abruptly, and really hard on my toe. "Don't say anything," she whispered. "This is his way of dealing with it."
That's when I realized, yet again, that my children were going to be just fine. They have their own direct line to God, their own inspiration, and, as my daughter put it, their own way of dealing.
