FINDING COMFORT IN INFINITE LOVE
December 26, 2004, was a beautiful day in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia . As it was Sunday, the Christian community went to church, still in the spirit of Christmas. Many people made grateful comments about the care and protection of the government during the holiday. All Christian churches, big or small, including our Church of Christ, Scientist, were provided police guards during that time for our security.
People were not aware that, while an atmosphere of joy and peace was prevailing in Jakarta, at the same time the tsunami disaster was raging mercilessly in other parts of our country. In the provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra, the tsunami was destroying countless villages and cities, killing thousands and thousands of people.
Later that morning when television stations began to report on the devastation, people were shocked at what they saw: cities and villages totally ruined, victims—including thousands of innocent children—scattered everywhere.
