QUICK HEALING OF BROKEN PELVIC BONE

A couple of years ago, I broke my pelvic bone. I have always relied on prayer and treatment in Christian Science for healing. But I was in a public place at the time, and I was taken to the emergency room of a local hospital, where the medical staff took X-rays. The doctors told me that I would have to be immobile for 12 weeks while an excruciating process of healing took place. Because of the way the bone had been injured, they said, there was nothing they could do for me but give me a lot of pain pills.

At that point I said, "Thank you very much, but if you don't mind, I'm going to get a second opinion." I asked to be taken home. A family member who had a truck that I could recline in came to pick me up. At home, I got out my books, the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's writings, and said, "Father, I want the second opinion. Let's see what You know." This was my prayer.

One of the books that I had gotten out was The Message, which is a translation of the Bible by Eugene Peterson. I happened to open it to the introduction to Ephesians, and—I'm going to paraphrase this—there Peterson speaks of belief and behavior being the bones, the structure, of our being. In my thought, I just saw so clearly the solidness and conviction of my belief about God as the source of all good, and my belief that I am spiritual—the manifestation of God in every way and every moment. I was certain that my understanding of those facts had to be expressed in my life in ways that included right activity, usefulness, purpose, value, freedom, and unhindered mobility. I continued to pray and study with this conviction.
