CHRISTIAN SCIENCE NURSING FACILITIES

There are Christian Science nursing facilities around the world, providing a sanctuary where an individual's desire to rely solely on prayer for healing is upheld by the spiritual reassurance and physical, practical care given by Christian Science nurses. In addition to offering 24-hour skilled Christian Science nursing care, many provide:

• "home visits" for those who have needs that can be met within two to three hours;

• "outpatient" care for those in need of facility services for a single visit or requiring brief daily attention, such as a bandage that needs changing;

• "rest and study" rooms for those who desire a haven for prayer and deeper metaphysical study, but do not have nursing needs;

• "respite care" for short-term assistance at the facility, so that caregivers looking after loved ones are temporarily relieved from ongoing responsibility for care.

Christian Science nursing facilities are nonprofit, independent organizations—each setting its own fees for payment of nursing costs. There are also a variety of resources for financial assistance, which vary from country to country. For instance, in the United States some insurance companies cover nursing costs, and if the patient is eligible for Medicare, reimbursement is made for room and board, nursing services and supplies. Or, for another example, in the United Kingdom The Aid Fund provides grants covering Christian Science nursing in facilities and homes. Facilities may offer partial benevolence to those patients who qualify. You are invited to be directly in touch with a facility to answer your specific questions.
