'I was capable of making a change'

One morning this past winter, I started having symptoms of the flu. Because of what I've learned in Christian Science about the mental nature of physical health, I prayed to understand that I had a perfect identity from God, and that these symptoms couldn't be a part of this spiritual identity. I also prayed to see evidence that wellness, safety, and freedom were intrinsic to my being—then and always.

At first, there was no change in the way I felt. As I continued to pray, I found myself wanting to ask God to wash away my faults. I wanted to feel that I was good and upright, as He created me to be. I thoroughly studied that week's Christian Science Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly, which gave me further inspiration and new insights. Even though there was no improvement physically, I was able to take care of some things, including removing snow from car, shoveling the front and back walks of my house, and clearing a path through the snow in our very long driveway.
