Prayer heals abdominal growth

One day, a few years after I had married, I suddenly became very ill with severe stomach pains and other internal symptoms that seemed to be related. I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to pray for me. This was a natural choice for me since I had grown up in a family that relied on spiritual means for healing. I had had previous healings through prayer and was confident I would be healed on this occasion.

But over the next few days I became increasingly unwell, and had to return to my parents' house to be nursed by my mother.

As a child I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School, and the logic of what I learned there about the nature of God and His creation had appealed to me. But because I hadn't really understood the depth of the Christian Science healing message, I had dropped away from its teachings. Now, as I struggled and began praying my way through this difficulty, ideas from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, that had appealed to my intellect, began to speak to my heart.
