How do you deal with STRESS?

Five people give answers.

By Kay Olson-Raleigh, North Carolina

Our local newspaper brings the situation in Iraq into my living room. As I write, one quarter of today's front page is filled with a color photo of an anguished Marine reacting to the news that one of his platoon buddies has been seriously injured. Reading this, my heart aches for him. Almost daily the paper runs articles about men and women from my state who are serving in Iraq.

As moved as I am in the reading of the news, I can only imagine how stressful it must be on the soldiers and their families who are living the news of injury, loss of life, and, most recently, plans for extended service. I had an opportunity to ask a former military man how he had dealt with fear and stress in dangerous situations. He said that, no matter what, this prayerful refrain helped calm and settle him down so he could do his job: "Be still, and know that I am God" (Ps. 46:10).
