A healing of serious burns
Five years ago my family and I were all living in Ghana. One day, my daughter Yayra was removing water from the gas stove when I heard her scream for help. I rushed to her aid. The water, which was boiling, had spilled on her arm and stomach. Trying to comfort her as best I could, I took Yayra to the sitting room, where we began to pray immediately.
It helped me to know that God never stops governing His creation harmoniously. Yayra and I said the Lord's Prayer together, with its spiritual interpretation given in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (see pp. 16-17). And we also prayed with "the scientific statement of being" also found in that book, which begins: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (p. 468). We talked about the fact that God is Spirit, and that because Yayra was His spiritual image, nothing evil could actually ever really touch her. An accident had no place in God's government.
At Yayra's request, I then called a Christian Science practitioner to help us pray about the situation. The practitioner assured Yayra that she was forever inseparable from God. They discussed some thoughts about the Bible story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were thrown into the fire because of their faith in God. He helped them. And they came out of the situation without a "smell of fire"—or aftereffect —left on them (see Daniel, chapter 3).
