Recovery after car battery explodes
When I was in college, my roommate invited me to spend a weekend with his family in their home several hours' drive from the college. We took my car, and headed off enthusiastically.
Several miles from our destination, my car suddenly stopped. As I checked under the hood, I could tell the battery cables needed cleaning, so I asked my friend to turn off the ignition while I got to work on them.
As I was cleaning the terminals, for some reason my friend decided to try to turn the engine over with the ignition key one more time. Unfortunately, at that moment I was using a metal tool to clean the battery terminals—and had touched the positive terminal simultaneously with another metal object.
