Prayer beyond skin-deep
The need to heal a skin rash leads to a deeper look at irritations, and at the meaning of those simple words "God is good."
I THOROUGHLY enjoy working in my garden. Each spring presents a new challenge in sorting out what others view as weeds but I view as treasures that just belong elsewhere.
One Saturday about three years ago, after having cleaned out vines in the far end of my backyard, I woke with what first appeared to be burns on my right arm—actually, a rash, probably from handling poison ivy or poison oak.
I immediately began to pray for myself. What came to thought was that nothing in God's creation could harm something else that He made. By the end of the day, the rash was gone and I was grateful. Everything was fine until Wednesday, at which point my entire body was suddenly covered with red spots—even my scalp and ears. The itching drove me crazy.
