"We Live With Too Much Noise and too many words. In order to find one's center, one's blessings, one's mission, one's soul, one's bliss, one's happiness, it is absolutely necessary to find time for silence.
"By silence we do not mean just turning off the TV and stereo and Walkman and all the other electronic noisemakers that destroy our quiet, although that's a good start. What we mean by silence is wordless openness to the moment. It is the courageous willingness to listen without having any preconceptions about what you will hear. If God is the potter, silence is our willingness to be the clay....
"All of us have superficial parts to our being and deep parts to our being. True happiness only comes from the deep parts, but the deep parts cannot be reached unless we surrender to God. Silence is a way to the surrender that produces true happiness. It is spiritual surrender that produces the greatest victories of the spirit. The world is just too full of distractions and seductions to allow us the necessary space and time in which to find out who we really are and what we really need."
