A life full of spiritual healings
When I was two years old, my mother became intrigued with the ideas in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, a book by Mary Baker Eddy. What especially appealed to her was the fact that Christian Science was not merely an alternative approach to be used for physical healing, but that it involved the practice of spiritual laws available to take care of any problem that might come up.
Before relying on this Science for my health needs, my mother decided she would "try it out" on herself for a year. By the end of six months, she had had what she called "such convincing proof" of the effectiveness of Christian Science treatment and prayer that she wholeheartedly trusted me to its care.
When I was barely three, I spilled a kettle of boiling water on my right leg. My mother, who was putting my baby sister to bed at the time, had asked me to tell her when the kettle began to boil. Instead, I took matters into my own hands and tried to lift the kettle off the stove.
