Boys will be... men

Boys will be boys." Now, there's a familiar refrain.

In fact, just this morning I heard those words used during a news broadcast about a young boy who had thrown a spitball, slightly injuring another boy. The excuse was just that.

When my boys were little and didn't get along, my mother-in-law would remind me, "Well, you know, boys will be boys." I guess I accepted that as true, from time to time. It was an excuse when they wrestled with each other more vigorously than I thought was reasonable, or when they punched each other during an argument over "Who gets to be first!"
