Healed of tuberculosis
Original in Portuguese
I began to read Science and Health when I was suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. I was very frightened and depressed. The book had not yet been translated into Portuguese, so I read it in Spanish.
Right at the beginning, a sentence caught my attention: "... to understand God is the work of eternity, and demands absolute consecration of thought, energy, and desire" (p. 3). The idea that I had all of eternity in which to understand God freed me from the pressure of time. I also saw that having that "absolute consecration of thought, energy, and desire" was within my grasp, and that it was entirely up to me. With the purpose of gaining this better understanding of God, I continued reading and was quickly and permanently healed.
More recently I had a bad cold that wasn't going away. This was surprising to me, because on earlier occasions I had been healed almost immediately of colds, after praying according to the teachings of the Bible and of Christian Science. This time, however, the cold was not healed, and I began to be afraid it would interfere with activities I could not postpone. I realized I had to go deeper in my prayers.
