Harvard conference in Boston
LAST MONTH the latest in a series of conferences on Spirituality and Healing in Medicine was convened in Boston. The conferences, begun in 1995, are presented by Harvard Medical School and the Mind/Body Medical Institute of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
For three days, physicians, researchers, clergy, and Ph.D.'s from diverse fields—theology to psychology to musicology—presented perspectives on the increased evidence that the medical environment is now actively supportive of what they say is at least one-third of what makes us human—our spirituality.
A shift is taking place in one-on-on doctor/patient relationships and in medical schools, which are now including in their curricula courses on spirituality as a healing component.
