Practical, powerful spiritual laws

Many years ago, I woke up one morning and found that a monster snowstorm had marooned my husband, me, and our three young children in our isolated mountain home. Weather reports said that it might take a week to make roads passable again.

Both my husband and I had had severe colds. And overnight, mine had taken on symptoms of pneumonia. My husband's cold was also getting much worse. Though generally healthy, I had suffered with bronchitis and other chest problems since childhood. My husband and I had both been treated for viral pneumonia the summer before, and we recognized the symptoms.

We called a doctor and he offered to fly in some medication by helicopter, but that wasn't an option, because we were surrounded by trees for miles.

I had read Christian Science Sentinels in the past, but I felt that the healings they told about were somehow unreal, and I wrote them off as coincidence. My husband had been raised in a Christian Science family, so I thought that a Christian Science practitioner might be able to help him. That way, I reasoned, one of us could take care of the children.

The phones were still working, so my husband called and asked a practitioner to pray for him. He never told the practitioner that I was sick, too—even sicker than he was. After the phone call, I felt that we had done all that we could do, so we turned on the television and watched an interesting program about space.

About three hours later, all the symptoms of my illness were gone. I didn't even have a cold. My husband was completely healed by the following morning.

The next day a neighbor plowed our road, and we walked the three or so miles to the village to get supplies.

This experience proved to me that God is the only true power and that His spiritual laws are powerful. I realized that the healings which Jesus and his disciples performed proved the practicality of those powerful, spiritual laws.

About three hours later, all the symptoms were gone.

This healing occurred about 30 years ago. And after it, I started to study Christian Science. With all my heart I exlaim, "O, how love I thy law!"
