ADVANCING YEARS

An alternative to the high cost of prescriptions

Carolyn's story has been repeated in the lives of so many other people.

Rising prescription drug costs in the United States especially concerns senior citizens. Yet people of all ages in many countries face this problem in one way or another. That's one of the reasons for a rising interest in alternative healing methods. Spirituality is apparently an increasingly important part of the answer to rising health care costs.

For more than 20 years, my friend Carolyn had used prescription drugs, usually antibiotics, to battle sinus infections, and the strep throat and bronchitis that often came with them. She would take one antibiotic until she developed an immunity to it; then she'd be prescribed another. This happened over and over again. Sometimes these drugs made her very sick.

For Carolyn, spirituality became the whole answer. Carolyn's mother would often talk to her about God and tell Carolyn that He loved her and everyone with a profound affection. She began to realize that God is the source, the substance, of all spirituality. He is the true Spirit. He made each one of us to be His likeness — that is, spiritual, rather than the flesh-and-bones bodies we appear to be. God, through a genuine mercy, removes ills and shortcomings from the lives of those who turn to Him without reservation.
