Random thoughts at Ground Zero
Standing At Ground Zero in lower Manhattan, I was captivated by the silence that surrounded me. People there were quiet, alone with their thoughts. The wreckage of the World Trade Center towers, the ongoing cleanup efforts, the smoke, the lingering acrid odor in the air, were stil prevalent so many weeks after September 11.
While I was standing there, I thought not only of the tragic loss of life and loved ones that occurred at this very spot, but of those struggling in Afghanistan, those who have lost loved ones as a result of the bombing there, those who have been displaced, those whose homes have been destroyed.
And I thought about terrorism. How it cannot be left to reignite and wrap its flames around future victims.
