Your INSIGHTS

Tsunami. It's a fairly new sound in the English language, but this Japanese word meaning "a long, high sea wave caused by an earthquake or other disturbance" has now been added to the English vocabulary. The image conjured up is a wave so great and so powerful that it would overwhelm everything in its path.

On September 11, 2001, a tsunami raced through our world at the speed of light. It threatened to overwhelm with shock, and disbelief, grief, and anger. But while people were still coming to grips with what it all meant, another powerful tsunami was rising up. We've heard it in the words of presidents and ministers, governors, and reporters; we've seen it in the faces of friends and neighbors and people of all backgrounds and religions around the world. These things catch our attention because they show something in the human heart that isn't just naked anger or lust for revenge. They show a deeper instinct, an awareness of something that will preserve rather than destroy. They're evidence of a worldwide tsunami of prayer.

Inspired prayer brings us into contact with the most powerful spiritual force there is. It's a force that no other power can withstand: it's the power of divine Love.
