'The sun broke through . . .'

That's What The Photographer of this week's cover photo, Judy Porta, said about her shot. The picture captured a moment of spiritual illumination she had the day after the tragic events in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. She described how it happened, in these words:

"I took this photo in the early evening of September 12 on the Oregon coast. It had been a beautiful, sunny vacation. Then, as we learned of the terrorist attacks, clouds gathered. The coast was completely fogged in all day. We held on to this idea from the Bible: 'And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus' (Phil. 4:7).

"Just before evening, the sun broke through. Its golden light was reflected in the ripples of a calm sea. It reminded us that regardless of appearances, the light of God's love was constant and universal, blessing all its creation forever."
